Christopher A. Coppula
Christopher Coppula is the author of Jimmy Van Heusen Swinging on a Star.
He was born in Washington, Pennsylania, a town some thirty miles south of Pittsburgh. He was introduced to music at an early age by his mother, who attempted to quell his fear of listening to recorded music at age 7 by convincing him to listen to Eugene Ormandy’s rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture (because of his interest in toy soldiers, which were featured prominently on the cover of the album). His mother’s therapy was successful, and that started a love affair with music that lasts to the present day, nearly 40 years later. At his mother’s urging, Mr. Coppula studied piano for nearly 20 years and became an accomplished vocalist. It was through his father, though, that he was introduced to the great American songbook and the music of Frank Sinatra, in particular. This interest grew as Mr. Coppula attended the University of Notre Dame, serving as an on-air announcer for the school’s FM radio station. Music remains a significant part of Mr. Coppula’s life, even as his career has taken him in a decidedly different direction: Mr. Coppula attended Georgetown University Law Center and currently practices law in the greater Washington, D.C. area where he lives with his wife and two children.
